16-year-old Australian Jessica Watson has left Sydney to break the youngest nonstop solo circumnavigation record yesterday aboard her S&S34 "Ella's Pink Lady"! I met her in Sydney in March when she considered crewing with us from New Zealand to Los Angeles on the Spencer 65 "Ragtime". I'm departing Fiji tomorrow to deliver a Whiting 47 to New Zealand so we will pass each other on a north/south diagonal as she heads for her mandatory equator rounding mark south of Hawaii ; - ) I'll let you know if we set up a radio sched or wave as we pass in the night! Ironic she will follow the same route I sailed when I delivered the S&S34 "Stray Bit" from Australia to Hawaii in the year 2000!
